HOURGLASS IN SILVER SETTING

Antique hourglass in silver setting with three turned columns.
Very delicately made hourglass with many decorations and nice elaborations on both undersides.
The setting has been opened up entirely and is decorated with little daisies, lilies and volutes.
Made by Juda Rosenthal and Samuel Jacobs & Co. (Hallmark London 1865).
A work of art with a running time of three minutes and an interior of beautiful white sand.
The hourglass is in mint condition, a museum piece.
Height: 8 cm. (3.6 inches)
History:
From the collection of Mr. C.F. van Veen (1912-1982).
Coenraad Frederik van Veen was a banker and well-known collector of children’s books a.o. in Holland.
In the fifties Van Veen rented the Heemstede castle in the vicinity of Houten.
Van Veen was a dandy, a self-taught connoisseur and collector of art and antiques, and gifted with an exquisite eye for quality.

18TH CENTURY HOURGLASS

Nice big-sized hourglass with three ampoules, running time ca 30 minutes divided in two quarters.
Classic knot join made from cloth and silk thread.
Frame of beech wood on wooden legs.
Ivory-coloured sand, probably from Germany.
Height: 23.5 cm. (9.5 inches)
Diameter both undersides: 11.5 cm. (4.5 inches)
In good working order and good run through of the sand, nice smooth quality.

FOUR - BULB HOURGLASSES 18TH CENTURY

Stunning organ pipes from the 18th century.
Very delicately crafted wooden frame with six nicely turned pillars on elegant spherical legs.
Glass with minor colour differences and irregularities.
The orange-red interior presumably consists of finely ground red sand stone.
The bulbs are joined with a knot join from cloth and copper thread.
Length: 25.5 cm. (10 inches)
Height: 20 cm. (8 inches)
Width: 7.4 cm. (3 inches)
Several running times (indicated on the ampoules)
Origin unknown.
All ampoules have a good run through of the sand and are in nice smooth condition.
Perhaps a unique acquisition for the clock collector who already has everything.

17TH CENTURY FRENCH HOURGLASS IN BRASS SETTING

Very delicately made hourglass with lots of decorations all round.
Little air bubble in the glass and a perfectly smooth knot join between the two bulbs.
Nice clear glass, somewhat elongated glass bulbs filled with a white interior.
The instrument has a running time of ca half an hour but has an irregular flow because of its age.
The bulbs are connected to each other by means of a classic knot join made from wax, cloth and silk thread.
The setting has been built-up from brass and has six sides with six pillars.
The whole setting has been beautifully opened up and is richly decorated with ornaments.
Condition: mint condition.
Origin: France.
Height 14 cm. (5.5 inches)
