A SPENCER & BROWNING HADLEY'S QUADRANT, CIRCA 1780
A nice octant from the series of large octants from the 18th century.
A very beautiful signed large octant by the London firm of Spencer & Browning.
With ivory scale division for angle measurement of 0 to 90 degrees.
Mounted on the frame white green and red bilge glasses.
The bent middle arch on the ivory plate has the name of the makers but also
the name of the original owner of the octant, captain James Irvine.
Nice big stepped oak case in shape of a quarter circle.
14 inch (36) cm radius.
On the inside a vignette by instrument makers Dudly of Portsmouth.
Very nice quality.
