NAPOLEONIC FRENCH PRISONER OF WAR SPINNING JENNY CA. 1810
A turning spinning-wheel mechanism that’s open at the bottom.
It consists of a number of wheels and a hand crank to operate the mechanism.
This piece is made by French prisoners of war in English captivity.
The women using these spinning-wheels always wore high hats of starched lace.
This traditional Celtic wear hails from Brittany.
This high lace hat is called the Coiffe Bigoudène, they exist in differing height and execution.
The hat can be seen as part of the regional costume at the party of the embroiderers,
which is organized yearly in France in the town of Pont l’Abbé even today.

Spinning Jenny 1795 – 1815
A nice Spinning Jenny of exceptionally high quality.
A Brittany lady with traditional high lace hat, with a pretty and nicely formed face and decorative mill.
The lady turns with her left arm, turns her head, lifts the right arm, and the mill turns.
Made from bone remains and still in working order after 200 years.
The rotating parts of the spinning-wheel are quite thin and very nicely fabricated.
You can see a lot of care went into the making of this piece. It’s presented on a round and nicely formed bone stand.

Bone Spinning Jenny Ca. 1795 – 1815
A double Spinning Jenny; two Brittany ladies on a nice bone automatic spinning-wheel.
The little lady on the right can spin around fully, the other lady can turn her head.
The Brittany lady with high lace hat has in her belt a large full bow, equipped with a crutch to wind up the wool.
This automatic spinning-wheel on elegant stand is particularly delicate.
It’s equipped with thin and nicely fabricated spinning-wheels and axes.
The wheels, spools and cranc on the lower plateau are also nice and thin and manufactured with care and attention.

Fisherman’s children Signed Achille Blot 1850
Achille Blot worked in the manner of his father. Both were well known artists.
Father as well as son have various terra cotta sculptures exhibited in the Dieppe ivory museum.
This is Blot’s early work, the artist still signed the work himself.
