Ship’s Model Manufacturer In A Bottle Ca. 1960

Folk art from Italian Antonio Fogoni.
Fogoni’s work was known for its many beautiful details, level of finishing and originality.
This model is one of many that have been made with much enthusiasm and eye for detail.

 A DOCKYARD MODEL OF AN ENGLISH FRIGATE

Very nice and detailed model of an frigate.
Planked timber hull with painted wales, deck details and a nice decorated stern gallery.
The model has a figurehead of Diana, pictured as a warrior with arch.
Diana was seen as the Roman goddess of the hunt, her favourite weapons was bow and arrow.
Mounted on crutches in a glazed display case.
The model is ca. 30 cm. long.
Display case measurements 34 x 15 x 15 cm.

Bone Frigate ‘Napoleonic French Prisoner Of War’ Ca. 1810

Bone miniature war frigate made in England during the Napoleonic war of 1792 – 1815, one of the smaller models made of bone.
It was manufactured by prisoners of war from bone remains that were left over from meals.
In those days the French were very accomplished with and known for their ivory and mother of pearl carvings.
Inside measurements 6 x 5 cm.
Outside measurements 14 x 8 cm.

Tall Ship London Castle Ca. 1800 – 1850

The fast sailing barque London Castle, with stemmed wooden sails and a brisk sea, passes Edystone Rocks and the wooden Edystone lighthouse.
Location is 12 miles south of Plymouth in the western part of the Channel, 14 miles off the Cornwall coast.

Tall Ship Kobenhaven 1921 – 1928

Shipping company model in mahogany display case.
The Kobenhaven was built in Scotland on the Ramage & Ferguson shipyard and had her maiden voyage in 1921.
It was a steel five mast barque and the training ship of the East Asiatic Company.
On board were 15 full-fledged sailors and 45 young cadets under direction of captain Hans Ferdinand Andersen.
The training ship was lost suddenly in December 1928 while sailing in clear weather from Buenos Aires to Melbourne, Australia.
In those days two models were made, one for the shipyard and the other for the nautical college.
This model hails from the former nautical college and is professionally made. It’s in excellent condition and shows many nice details.
