18TH CENTURY MONOCULAIR OF SHAGREEN LEATHER & VELLUM

Monocular made out of black ivory, cardboard, wood, vellum and shagreen leather.
The retractable tube is made of cardboard finished with green vellum.
The vellum is beautifully tooled and has a silver coloured floral motive on all sides.
Nice big spyglass, with smooth body of green shagreen leather.
Frames of black ivory, complete with ivory object and ocular lid.
Object lens: 4 cm (1.6 inches) across
Length closed: 10 cm (4 inches)
Length opened: 16.5 cm (6.5 inches)
The style is typical of a mid-18th century English telescope.
Very fine quality, full of colour and completely smooth.
Good optics.

CARDBOARD AND VELLUM TELESCOPE, CA 1760

A mid-18th century telescope made of cardboard, paper, vellum, horn and wood.
The body is made of cardboard fitted with brown paper.
The cardboard tube parts are fitted with marbled yellow-brown vellum and provided with stop lines.
The lenses on this telescope are achromatic.
The frames on the tube parts as well as the objective and eyepiece are made from horn.
The telescope comes with nice lens caps made from rosewood.
Complete with all lenses.
Object lens across 2.5 cm (1 inch)
Optimal working length opened 89 cm (35 inches)
Length closed 33 cm (13 inches)
Good working optics.

118TH CENTURY SATINWOOD SHIP’S TELESCOPE

An very distinctly designed telescope made from gorgeous Indian satinwood.
It has a widening form and is made from one piece.
The widening form makes for a nice big objective and good range of vision.
The telescope is made by Dollond of London and comes with a fine 18th century signature.
Indian satinwood or citrus wood has a nice light to gold yellow colour.
Satinwood species are considered to be the finest sorts of wood in the world.
In the late 18th and early 19th century it was mainly used for luxury purposes.
During processing the wood gives of a soft sweet coconut smell.
Length closed 72.5 cm (28.5 inches)
Length opened 89 cm (35 inches)
Object lens across 4 cm (1.5 inches)
A rare telescope with optics in good working order.
Made around 1780.

18TH CENTURY VELLUM AND SHAGREEN TELESCOPE

Telescope consisting of five parts; the first tube part is made of cardboard fitted with pretty green shagreen leather.
The four extending tube parts are made of green vellum.
On some tube parts stoplines are applied to mark optimum working length.
Closed: ca 30 cm (12 inches).
Opened up to the stoplines: 105 cm (41.5 inches).
The telescope is equipped with a sliding eyepiece cover.
The object lens is 1.5 inches in diameter and is sealable with a brass screw cap.
Made around 1770 by John & Pieter Dollond of London.
The largest tube bears a mark: Dollond London.
Nice optics, complete with all lenses.
A very pretty and colourful telescope of museum quality.
Hardly any traces of wear.

18TH CENTURY CARDBOARD & VELLUM VENITIAN TELESCOPE

Telescope consisting of four parts.
The first tube part is made of cardboard with colourful orange paper.
This orange tube has 18th century decorations of floral patterns.
The three retractable tube parts are made of cardboard with cream-coloured vellum.
On the tube parts stop lines are applied to mark the optimum working length: closed 24 cm (9.5 inches), opened 66 cm (26 inches).

The telescope is equipped with horn frames and a sealable brass eyepiece.
The object tube is 1.5 inches in diameter and can be closed with a brass lid.

Made around 1760 by Leonardo Semitecolo of Venice.
Signed on the largest tube in an oval tablet: Leonardo Semitecolo.
Nice clear optics, comes complete with all lenses.
A very fine telescope of excellent quality.
Hardly any traces of wear.
