18th Century Octagonal Tapered Mahogany Telescope Signed H. Pyefinch London

An impressive, mahogany ship’s telescope made by Henry Pyefinch.  
This type of telescope was made from long strips of mahogany,
the trapezium shape ensured its firmness.  
These trapezium shaped telescopes were manufactured from 1740 until the end of the 18th century.  
The telescope was made around 1760, Pyefinch then had its quarters in Cornhill Street in London.  
The telescope has a sealable copper objective to protect it from seawater.
Nice quality, hardly any traces of use.  
Length 94 cm, 37 inches.
