Ship’s Compass Signed Wilson London Ca. 1790

An unusual wooden ship’s compass in the shape of a mushroom.  
The compass has been gimballed and is provided with a dry map.  
The whole is mounted in a wooden body with an inbuilt oil lamp as a source of light at the front.
The elegant chimney, which helps transport the heat, is also mushroom-shaped.  
The compass is equipped with a nice rose and in good working order.
