DUTCH DRY COMPASS IN WOODEN BOWL CA. 1825

Dutch dry compass, signed: Gebroeders Polak Vlissingen, made in Vlissingen ca. 1820.  
The bowl was turned from alder wood with a nice smooth dry map with Dutch
abbreviations of the wind directions.  
Polak had a shop located at the sail market in the old harbor of Vlissingen.  
The compass comes complete with pretty lid with a little dark ebony wood acorn for a knob.
In Holland this type of compass used to be called ‘botervlootje’ (‘butter dish’).
