SKU: 485

A WALKER'S HARPOON II DEPTH FINDER, CIRCA 1920

The instrument is designed to simply go straight down to measure the depth of the sea bed.
It has a impeller that drives a threaded gear and an enamel dial printed from 0-30 fathoms.
It is attached to a cable or line and thrown overboard with a piece of lead.
As the device goes to the bottom, the meter counts the number of fathoms.
At the back there is a flap that drops down and locks the rotor when the device has reached the bottom,
Now she can be lifted to the surface again to read the depth.
A small plaque features Walker's "Harpoon" Depth Finder, Thomas Walker & Son Ltd, 58 Oxford St, Birmingham with serial number A.B 7018.
There is also a special factory stamp of an anchor and the letters T and W. Circa 1920
This would be a fabulous asset for any serious collector of Nautical Memorabilia.
