A RARE BRASS BINNACLE COMPASS – SIGNED ON THE COMPASS ' J.BRYER & SON  LONDON, GOLD MEDAL & DIPLOMA.'

The instrument is polished, lacquered and is in good general condition, with no visible metal fatigue
or serious dents. It has an overhead lamp housing with the lamp still present,
the lamp is in perfect condition and still working. The compass is in good working order.
The oak base is in very good condition white some light patina, it is beautifully made in
an Admiralty style pattern with small holes visible on the lower legs where it had brackets to screw it down.
J. Bryer & Son were Nautical instrument makers trading from 104 Minories London
(Mrs. Janet Taylor's former address) from 1878-1888.
The maker was only producing for 10 years, only a few were made.
Heigth inclusive base 58 cm, 23 inche.
A rare and interesting piece.
